Seismic Attenuation Extraction From Traffic Signals Recorded by a Single Seismic Station

چکیده
Seismic ambient noise contains rich information about the physical properties of critical zone. From motor vehicle noise, we extract daily seismic attenuation by quantifying linear relationship between frequency and amplitude ratio paired instantaneous spectra. After verifying reliability proposed method, apply it to data collected at three urban sites. The estimated is compared against environmental variables: rainfall, temperature, traffic volume. results show that correlates most strongly with precipitation positive time lags, suggesting a high sensitivity changes in soil moisture groundwater system. Furthermore, differences attenuation-precipitation correlations indicate near-surface may vary significantly due local site conditions. Our statistical method extracts reliable from highly complex data, achieving unprecedented spatial temporal resolution existing imaging methods.

Extracting Seismic Profiles from Background Seismic Signals
The idea of obtaining the seismic trace representing the impulse response at one receiver due to a source at another receiver has discussed by many authors. Jon Claerbout (see e.g. Rickett and Claerbout, 1996; Claerbout, web) introduced the concept to seismology. It has been investigated in the laboratory by Lobkis and Weaver (2001), observed in seismic data by Campillio and Paul (2003), and in...
متن کاملRelocating a Cluster of Earthquakes Using a Single Seismic Station
Coda waves arise from scattering to form the later arriving components of a seismogram. Coda-wave interferometry (CWI) is an emerging tool for constraining earthquake source properties from the interference pattern of coda waves between nearby events. A new earthquake location algorithm is derived which relies on coda-wave-based probabilistic estimates of earthquake separation. The algorithm ca...
متن کاملRelative Seismic Attenuation Estimation
The end goal of any solid Earth study is to better constrain physical parameters of the Earth (e.g. viscosity, temperature, and mineral composition). As we are unable to directly measure many of these quantities, past a few kilometers in depth, we must content ourselves with indirect estimates by way of experiment and theory. Just as geochemists do this by way of compositional deviations from p...
متن کاملA Slow Seismic Event Recorded in Pasadena
A prominent long-period wave with a duration of 2000 sec or longer was recorded with a very-broadband system in Pasadena on June 18, 1988. This wave was not observed elsewhere, and i s considered of local origin. The acceleration amplitude is 2.5x10 -5 cm/sec 2 in the northwest direction, with the vertical component less than 10% of the horizontal. The horizontal acceleration can be interpreted...
